Angela A. Kokkosis, MD, FACS

The Center for Vein Care is led by our new director, Angela A. Kokkosis, MD. A board-certified vascular surgeon, Dr. Kokkosis has been in practice at Stony Brook University Hospital since 2014. She is recognized for her work as a clinician, researcher and educator.

Dr. Kokkosis is an Associate Professor of Surgery at Stony Brook Medicine where she is an instructor of medical students, surgery residents and vascular surgery residents. She also holds numerous hospital leadership positions including:

  • Co-Director of the Vascular Lab
  • Director, Venous Thromboembolism Team
  • Program Director, Vascular and Endovascular Integrated Residency
  • Director, Carotid Interventions
  • Director, PICC Line Service 

Professional Leadership

An active researcher, Dr. Kokkosis has authored peer-reviewed papers and book chapters in several areas of arterial and venous disease and is the recipient of several research-related scholarships. She is an expert in the diagnosis and management of arterial and venous disease, including aortic aneurysms, carotid disease, peripheral arterial disease (PAD) and treatment of acute DVT with thrombolysis, pelvic congestion syndrome, and varicose veins.

Dr. Kokkosis has given numerous presentations on venous disease and carotid disease. Currently, she is the principal investigator for clinical trials aimed at the treatment of venous disease.

With respect to educating medical students and trainees, Dr. Kokkosis has been highly involved with national organizations such as the Society for Vascular Surgery (SVS) and the Association for Program Directors of Vascular Surgery (APDVS). Locally, she serves on the curriculum committee at the Renaissance School of Medicine at Stony Brook University and as Program Director of the Integrated Vascular Residency. She is also a member of the American Venous Forum (AVF) and the Eastern Vascular Society (EVS). She is involved with various committees in each of these societies.


Dr. Kokkosis grew up on Long Island and completed her undergraduate and medical education through a combined BS-MD program at Stony Brook University. Upon graduating from medical school in 2009, she continued her training at the Integrated Vascular Surgery Residency at the Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, NY.
